Transformation exception getLocator() always returning null 2003-03-12 - By Joseph Kesselman
It's possible to write an XSLT template to compute a "pseudo-XPath" to a node. (Hard to do more than that because XPath 1.0 doesn't include syntax for binding namespace prefixes.) There are several versions of this in the FAQs from the XSLT Users' mailing list. I've got my own version which is part of an article that'll be going onto developerWorks some time in the next few months; I'll try to dig it out.
